CCM to contest Kawe loss

The ruling Chama cha Mapinduzi (CCM) has said it will contest its loss in Kawe constituency against Chadema iron girl, Halima Mdee.

The news of the appeal of the loss was reveaed by CCM campaign spokesman January Makamba on Wednesday. Makamba disclosed that his party would appeal their loss in Kawe constituency in Dar es Salaam as well as three other constituencies of Iringa Urban, Ndanda and Mikumi. He cited irregularities including in the tallying process as the main reason for their appeal of the results.
"Having suspected irregularities in the constituencies, we asked for re-counts of the votes, but we were ignored by the returning officers", he said. "That is why we are going to court."

Kawe is one of the five Dar es Salaam consituencies that were scooped by the opposition Ukawa coalition members in the bruising battle with the ruling CCM with the result that now the country's business capital firmly in the hands of the opposition legislators. 
The battle for Dar es Salaam constituencies and Kawe was so hard fought, the results for Sunday's elections were only announced on Tuesday, with opposition supporters having protested the delays and prompted police intervention.
